Notes: This is a single barrel bourbon which is bottled to flavor profile rather than a set age, so while more consistent lacks some of the idiosycracies you can find in some of the other single barrles both good and bad.

This whiskey is produced at the scenic Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort (close to Woodford Reserve Distillery if you are touring) home of numerous other whiskies such as Eagle Rare 10 year-old, Eagle Rare 17 year-old, Blanton's, Rock Hill Farms, and Elmer T.Lee. (See our Adventure Section for a tour of the distillery).

This bourbon is bottled at 88.9 proof a rather the usual 90 or 100 proof you see in other bourbon bottlings

Appearance: Nice red / yellow copper in the bottle. Much more yellow cast in the glass. Some very small particulates in the glass (have to look hard). Even, thick body on swirling with not many but nice long legs developing.

First Impression: Lemon, Virginia tobacco, rye notes.

Taste: Medium body and mouthfeel, lemony, a touch of sweetness turning to a drier finish.

Drinks: Good for most bourbon drinks but does not stand up to other ingredients as much as some.

Final Thoughts: I like the citrus and rye notes but lacks some of the depth and complexity of their other brands. Simple, nice and some charm, an easy drinking whiskey, however I find it a bit pricey for what it is.

Bottle: A round decanter like bottle with pressed (almost near cut) glass ribs to either side of the oblong label and a sohort round neck increase the impression of a whiskey decanter.Real wood stopper with wide cork which makes a nice almost wine bottle plop sound as you open it. Nice effect - lets your friends know you are opening a good bottle - unlike a lot of brands Buffalo Trace has not cheaped out with screw caps for its better whiskies.

Beware the Buffalo! No, that is not your computer acting up, it is the
snorting buffalo. After you get past that (note to webmaster, please
lengthen the time interval between snorts), you go to a old pioneeer style
map that is the site map. Loads of information on every aspect of the
distillery. Check out the distillery webcams when you get a chance. An
interesting and excellent approach to a web page that allows you to see
everything laid out quickly and precisely. Probably the most precise and
comprehensive site I have ever seen, it sets an industry standard.
