Notes: This whiskey is produced at the scenic Buffalo Trace Distillery in
Frankfort (close to Woodford Reserve Distillery if you are touring) home
of numerous other whiskies such as Ancient Ancient Age, Ancient Age, Blanton's, Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare 10, Eagle Rare 17, Rock Hill Farms, Hancock Reserve, George T. Stagg, W. L.Weller Special Reserve,W. L.Weller 12, and Elmer T. Lee. (See our Adventure Section for a tour of the distillery). This is a straight (unblended) sour mash bourbon.
Appearance: Red/gold in the bottle - except at the neck which is thinner where it is more gold/brown. Wheat-colored in the glass; on swirling leaves a even coat on the glass with long legs developing.
First Impression: Corn, heavy rye notes, with a touch of char.
Taste: Dry start, light mouth feel, grassy.
Drinks: Well, I guess it would work for lighter drinks such as a highball.
Cigar: Light cigar
Final Thoughts: An older style bourbon but not much to it. A disappointing product compared to many of their other efforts. Kind of a whiskey lite.
Bottle: Basic round old-style bottle with scalloped shoulders which gives it a nice feel in the hand. Pressed glass design on either side of front label depicts a rye plant.
Old-style title script is printed in multi colors. Age statement is overprinted on diagonal in right bottom quadrant and on top of front label. Simple layout on rectangular label gives it a antique feel. Yellow colored label, gold neck seal and cap.
Fast loading with a slightly annoying intro (no need for it). This however is
followed by a display of all the bourbons they make (over 20, not counting
overseas variations). Extensive information and good pictures of each one, with reviews and ratings by different people and organizations.
