Notes: Most of our notes on Bacardi can be found here. Other Bacardi flavored rums are: Big Apple, Limón, Coconut, Dragonberry, O, Peach, Razz, and Mojito in the flavored line. Not to mention various premixed and ready to drink concoctions - some of which actually contain rum, others a malt alcohol, or none at all depending on the product or in some cases, country.
What is a Grand Melon you may ask? A watermelon. Marginally better name and concept than a watermelon flavored rum - sounds a bit less like a kiddie drink or taste.
Appearance: Clear, no sediment whatsoever. On swirling, it leaves a thin, but tenacious clear coat on the inside of the glass, then develops legs and some droplets on the edge line.
First Impression: Waxy chocolate notes, with a green watermeon rind smell - almost more like a cantaloupe smell a little latergreen and slightly spicy notes to it.
Taste: Watermelon candy a litttle citrus or tropical fruit candy, spice, lots of sugar. Very thick glycerin and corn syrup entry - almost gelatinous body. Sickly, sticky aftertaste. I hate to think what would happen if you drank too much of this . . . Filthy tasting stuff - the taste of which clings like grim death.
Drinks: Ugh. . . Rather drink the contents of a spitoon.
Cigars: Swisher Sweets.
Bottle: Clear glass with silkscreened graphics and a screwcap.
Final Thoughts: Think watermelon gummi bears or lifesavers dissolved in cheap rum . Not a serious rum or something for a serious drinker. This is one of those concoctions out there for people who love sweet, fruity, candylike alcohol for a cheap price. I'm not saying directly targeted to the underage, but certainly people with similar tastes to the underage.
