Peach Dessert Wine

PROOF:  36 (18%)
AGE: Not Applicable
TYPE: Fruit/Dessert

PRICE: $ 20 - 375 ML  (1/2 Bottle)

Notes: This wine was produced by Huber winery in Borden Indiana. They also produce number of other wines and a few brandies. This is another one of the infusion series that are a specialty at Huber's. This one start off as a peach eau de vie which is aged in oak for one year to mellow before blending with fresh juice then laid down for a year to blend before release.

A truly unique peach wine both in the way it was made and the final product.

AppearancePleasing pink / gold color, no sediment whatsoever. On swirling it leaves a thin clear coat on the inside of the glass

First Impression: Pleasant bouquet of peach, citrus and mint notes.

TasteSweet and heavy on the tongue, with a plump, round taste to it.  A slight  warming of alcohol as it goes down the throat  and the oily/thick tail of peach necter at the end. But strangely does not linger or coat the tongue as a lot of the cheaply made peach wines do.

Drinks: Like the others, it makes a wonderful ingredient for a variation of the classic Kir Royale (Champagne with Cassis), but will not of course have the effect on color that the Blueberry or Raspberry will have but does not interfere with the champagne the way a liqueur can. It's also a great substitute for peach schnapps in cocktails calling for it as an ingredient. It's much more subtle!

Final Thoughts: Hugely different from those fruit flavored white wines you see in such abundance. Much more rounded and sweet, without being syrupy, and unlike the others this shows a careful approach to to fruit wines which are usually the province of low end "alcopop" type wines.

Bottle: Tall 375 ML bottle dark blue bottle with attractive silk screened graphics and text. Unlike the other wines by this winery I've reviewed, it is not sealed with a fair amount of sealing wax so was somewhat easier to open, but is not as showy a presentation because of it.
