Bar Tools - Large Est Absinthe Glass
ITEM: Large Est Absinthe Glass
ITEM TYPE: Glassware, Absinthe
COST: $20 (Plus Shipping)
Overview: Handmade, mouthblown, absinthe glass replica of the glasses usually found in eastern France and the Swiss border (est=east in French).
Appearance: Well made, no mold marks (glass is blown) with what I would call a thin commercial thickness lip (not like a Reidel martini glass) but in this case ground and finished unlike the Cordon or Pontarlier. Maybe a little more likely to chip, but better appearance. Dimensions: height 7.5 inches, diameter 3.75 inches, bowl has triple line inscribed for measuring out the absinthe. Capacity is 12 ounces.
First Impression: Easy-to hold, nice balance, big enough to add enough water without splashing, measuring line is is triple line cut and easy to find. Lozenge type faceting and ground edge give it a more finished look than some other glasses out there.
Testing: Easiest glass to measure the Absinthe (note line is for 2 oz not 1 oz . Does not fit all spoon designs. Big and easy-to-use. Fits the hand nicely, nice weighted balance to base. Easy and straight-forward to wash and dry.
Cons: Too big for some spoons.Ask when ordering which will fit. Finished edge requires a little more care.
Final Thoughts: One of my favorites, looks nice, easy to use, easy to clean. Cheap for what you are getting, not easily broken or chipped if you are reasonably careful and not a drunken fool.
Lots of pictures, scads of information and best prices I have seen. Highly recommend their site and products. Great customer service and advice.
