Doesn’t go much cheaper without major pain and suffering from bad distillation.
Notes: 1800 Reposado is aged (rested) in French and American oak barrels and is made from 100% agave- which is unusual for this this price-most of the tequila you find at this price (and certainly below) is NOT 100% agave but blended tequila- the stuff that all those college tequila stories are made of. Other versions are the 1800 Silver and 1800 Anejo.
Appearance: Light straw colored, leaves even coat on swirling.
First Impression:Not overly aromatic, sea salt and slightly antiseptic smell.
Taste: Cilantro, alkali tang, pepper, touch of cinnamon, slightly thick, waxy mouth feel, dry finish.
Drinks: Margaritas of course, and Tequila Sunrises. Stands up well in both drinks. Unlike the higher priced Anejo, its stands out against any mixer. As a shot, it goes down with a mild burn but what are you expecting?
Cigars: Fuente Curlyheads.
Final Thoughts: A good basic tequila at the low end of the price scale. If you are looking for a good but cheap tequila this one is always a reliable bet.. Doesn’t go much cheaper without major pain and suffering from bad distillation. Spend the extra money and avoid the pain and possibly jail- (both possible if not likely results from cheap tequila and the things that happen after a few two many shots of the cheap stuff).
Bottle: Rectangular with shaved off edges and squared off shoulders. Simple pressed glass design of stylized agave at bottom, paper labels .Squarish glass stopper with cork around glass stem (seals tightly – an important point with tequila) – assuming you are keeping the bottle for a while. Moderately heavy glass large square bottom and short silhouette make it a hard to tip over bottle.
