Great way to sweeten a drink and add some flavor other than agave.
Notes: Like all the spirits I review this was tasted at room temperature for maximum taste and detection of any faults if any in a product. If you chill benzene cold enough you could drink that too (NOT RECOMMENDED!), which is why I try them at room temperature. Bärenjäger is a liqueuer based on a medeival bear bait mix of honey, herbs, and alcohol. Made from a vodka base, Yucatan honey (more aromatic) , and a secret mix of herbsit is brought to the U.S. by the same people who import its much more known cousin,Jägermeister.
Appearance: Dark honey/gold, color to it. Reminiscent of a young whiskey but darker. On swirling leaves a even coat on the glass with a very slow, almost glacial development of legs.
First Impression: Heavy almost deep, scents of honey, cloves, cinnamon and baerwurz.
Taste: Spicy honeyed notes with pleasant cinnamon, cloves, allspice, cardamom, gentian and or baerwurz notes. Very thick entry with sweetnes and fair amount of spice slight tail of aromatic bitter with lingering finish/aftertaste with mild alcohol presence.
Drinks: Rather handy stuff. Can be used instead of honey or agave as a sweetener when looking for something to sweeten and spice a drink. Good with all sorts of thing and much overlloked by many – so a lot of oppurtunity to use in a signature cocktail.
Bottle: Clear glass to show off color of liqueur. Wickerjacket around the bottom 2/3rds of the bottle. Paper label is somewhat rustic looking representation of medeval bear hunter. Sports a plastic beehive screw cap.
Other: Similar to a Polish drink widely used as a battlefield antiseptic in WW II (alcohol and honey are both good for such things in a pinch). Also seems to work well for coughs (IMHO).
