Damned cheap price for the age and more importantly the quality of!

Notes: This is another whiskey passion project brought to market by David Schmier of Dynamic Beverages, who brought us the Redemption Rye and Bourbon series, the  Dead Wood Series of Bourbon and Rye, River Boat series, and the Funk a Jamaican high ester pot still rum. The good Day and Sunshine Blended Canadian Whiskey   represents Proof and Woods commitment to bringing quality whiskey of the higher-end direction to the market. Good Day and Sunshine is following a number of other remarkable and very noteworthy whiskies actually that Mr. Schmier has found in the wild and brought to market . GD&S represents a beautiful merchant bottling of whiskies. The barrels selected for this bottling represent some of the finer whiskies available on the open market for bottling and, possibly, more importantly, skill in selection and blending.
The whiskey itself is sourced from well, somewhere in Canada, and was distilled back in 2000 and placed in used rum barrels rat were originally used for aging rum from Jamiaca.  The exact mash bill is not available and this is also a blend of different whiskies but it is mostly corn with rye and malted barley whiskies in the mix. The age at bottling is 21 years old – which is an accomplishment these days as most people bottle their products much earlier to keep costs down. Extended aging is usually only found in colder climes ( read Scotland and Canada) and rare among United States (especially Kentucky and Tennessee as the seasonal weather cycling is generally too much for a successful  long term aging.

Appearance: Clear light Baltic amber in color. a patinated gold that is also the color of the highest grade of first run/tap of maple syrup.cNice medium thick oily coat on swirling with meaty legs forming quickly. Nicely viscous stuff bodes well full a taste !

First Impression: Corn and rye, with the barley underpinning it and providing structure. The Jamaican rum barrel influence adds a nice funk and molasses touch to give it its signature spin/twist from a more bourbon plain vanilla and of bouquet and adding some nice layers of intrigue before you commit.

Taste: Nicely oily entry coating the tongue nicely with the sweet from the corn and the barley and rye giving it a nice structure

Drinks: Actually I like just sitting down with this and sipping on its own for the most part…. But given the price there is little reason NOT to indulge in a really outstaying Old shined of Manhattan with this stuff, How else could you afford to use a 21 year old whiskey as a mixer ?

Bottle: Interesting somewhat wide, sloping rectangular decanter that will stand out on any store shelf, bar shelf of or sideboard you put it on.

Other: Nice to see what can be done with careful aging and talented blending.

Final Thoughts: Overall a delicious whiskey that has a lot of broad appeal. As Usual Dave Schmier has come up with a winning blend . We look forward to any further efforts (whiskies ).

Very much the tip of the iceberg to follow his many bottlings! Short and succinct for the most part but a lot of bottles to explore – be warned !
