Made by Worthy Park Distillers  in St Catherine Jamaica this is one of the more civilized versions widely available to the world market. If this was a whiskey you would probably call it white dog or similar it is an unaged spirit that is bottled and sold immediately with no aging. Unlike a whiskey ( or many other rums for that matter  it is made from a blend  fresh squeezed cane juice an molasses. It is also differentiated from the local moonshine in that is made by a mainstream commercial distiller. The local Jamaican homemade rum is known as Clairin, it is usually made by small distillers in handmade pot stills of various sizes/capacities. Prices, quality, and safety of these products can vary widely … That jug of clarin you buy in an alley bottled in a reused insecticide jug ? Good luck with that ! There is good clarin out there, but is is a different animal than what we have here.

Worthy Park was established in 167- and producing sugar and molasses since 1720, Worthy Park uses 100 % copper Scottish pot stills and they use 3 different rums blended carefully to produce their Rum Bar Rum A Rum Bar in Jamaica is a social gathering spot in communities for people to gather, socialize and have some drinks. Similar to pubs in other British influenced establishments. Produced to the Jamaican Rum Standard, this rum has NO additives of any kind (sugar, coloring, spices, etc., ) and is one of the better overproof rums out there for someone looking for an authentic pot still rum.

Appearance: Clear as glass, faultless, Coats the glass nicely on swirling and leaves a thin coat with legs rapidly forming as it retreats.

First Impression: Redolent with fermented ripe tropical fruits, pineapple, a touch of mango, bananas, cinnamon spiciness and a lot of grassiness from the cane

Taste: Yeah, no mistaking the slap of a good overproof rum. A burst of fruit, cane and molasses make for a heady mix of flavor that promises delicious drinks and reckless trouble if you are not careful !

Drinks: An excellent and inexpensive choice for any rum drink calling for a white rum and/or fire. Also excellent in punches or as a float. Again use caution near open flames or smoking materials.

Bottle: Fairly no nonsense kind of bottle a large ( 1 Liter) cylindrical bottle with a curved shoulder. A bit thin on the glass (try not to drop it especially if smoking !) with a distinctive and colorful label using the colors of the Jamaican flag, it is hard to miss. Black with yellow labeling screw top closure,

Other: Overall a nice choice for a white rum that somehow manages to blend pot and column still, Rhum Agricole ( cane rum)  and Rhum Industrial (molases rum) with an excellent blend of the two !

Final Thoughts: A go to or must have in any rum bar selection , either at home or at a bar.
