Jacob Bromwell Skull Couture Flask

One of the best flasks out there today and totally made in America.
If you get one of these as a gift you are truly loved by a discriminating human being.
If you buy one for yourself you are a discriminating human being who is getting one of the best-made flasks you can find. Enjoy!

Notes: Founded in 1819, Jacob Bromwell® proudly holds the distinction of being the oldest kitchenware and housewares manufacturer in North America, and is the oldest known manufacturer of copper, stainless steel, and tin products in the United States. They produce a number of high-end quality products such as baking pans and sheets, popcorn poppers, flour sifters, ( they hold the patent on the design of all subsequent flour sifters ever since), graters, chestnut roasters. All of their products are of outstanding quality and designed for multigenerational service life ( as in leave it in your will and pass it down). Everything also comes with an (at least one) lifetime guarantee. Completely made in the USA and requiring no batteries or electricity to function their products set a standard that is hard to beat.

They also produce a number of pieces of drinkware such as tin cups, solid copper shot glasses, funnel,  and coasters, and such, but we are going to review one of their luxury flasks in this review.

The Luxury Copper Flasks come in three different flavors or types as it were; Prestige Copper, Hammered Copper, and Special Edition

What distinguishes these flasks from the forest of other flasks out there? Materials and workmanship, attention to detail, fit, and finish among other things. These are not some artisanal, handcrafted, items in the negative sense of the words- like made by hand by some not even apprentice-level person at a craft fair but made by true artisans who have years of training and skill and their flasks reflect this level.

Appearance: Heavy solid copper construction with hot tinned lining (damn near a lost art) and weigh in at a reassuring almost 24 ounces where most of the similar capacity flasks weigh in at a fraction of that at 4 ounces. The devil is n the details here, the Solid copper cap feels almost like a lug nut compared to other flask caps, heavy, machined, and about twice the length with heavy-duty screw threading. Band of diamond style checkering or knurling in the middle of the cap provides a nice non-slip surface on the side of a mirror-polished cap. Inside of the cap has a natural cork gasket ( not cheap and easy to flavor plastic. Oval shape with no sharp corners to catch or tear and pleasing feel and heft to the hand. Unlike most flasks these days you can’t easily flex the metal on this one. It may or may not stop a bullet depending on the caliber, range, and several other factors, but it sure as hell could slow one down. Body is one sheet of copper )sorry can’t mic it – ask them for exact spec please – with the seam running up the center back and the top and bottom are solid pieces of hot tinned copper stamped to the body. The bottom plate has stamped “Authentic Jacob Bromwell (in script/signature) Since 1819”. Skull design/artwork which is 100% hand-hammered ( not machine stamped out)   is rather stylized ( as opposed to say, anatomical) with a nice depth and detailing that gives it a nice tactile feel and makes it feel nice in your hand. You will have little excuse to drop or fumble this flask!

First Impression: Extremely well built, with great attention to detail, fit, and finish. All the details are very well thought out and there seems to be no scrimping on materials. Neck is a good bit longer, sturdier, and has heavier threading to make a far more durable seal than most flasks today. Fit ad finish is also very tight and the thickness of the copper is quite good. Design is well executed and even across the entire piece of artwork. The whole flask is far superior to any other modern-day flask we know of.

Directions and Instructions: They have special instructions on the care of your flask here.

Testing: Capacity is 9 fluid ounces – that’s 5 shots or jiggers so enough for a round for you and 4 friends. The hot tin lining makes sure there is no residue, metal transfer of otherwise flavoring of your contents ( although don’t put anything overly acidic or carbonated in ANY flask

Other: Comes wrapped in a heavy cellophane bag inside a nicely made velveteen black drawstring pouch with silkscreened “Authentic Jacob Bromwell (signature) Since 1819” on pouch inside a corrugated and stapled cardboard box, Nice presentation overall. Also, there is a well-made presentation box with a sliding lid available for an additional fee which is a very nice touch for both gifting and long-term storage of your flask.

Final Thoughts: If you want the best handmade flask out there this is the Ne Plus Ultra ( there is no better). Yes you can spend more money on silver, gold, or carbon fiber, but when it comes to overall quality and ruggedness you can’t beat this flask
